How are you celebrating the Centenary of distance education in Western Australia?

SIDE was proud to host Nobel Prize winner, Professor Barry Marshall and UWA Professor Andy Whiteley to launch the new MicroBlitz mobile app, and explain why they want SIDE students to get out there and dig for DNA.

SIDE will be hosting a special Cyber Safety Saba Event on May 18 at 1pm to cover core internet safety messages to help students protect their privacy online as part of National Privacy Week.

WA’s most famous scientist, Nobel Prize winner, Professor Barry Marshall seems to think so. That’s him in the picture, digging up a soil sample for DNA analysis.

A team of Year 8 students represented SIDE in the Synergy Schools Solar Challenge regional heats at Newman College on Thursday 5 April. The team of Issy, Jacqleen and Ella won the SIDE Solar Car Challenge, and went on to achieve third place in a field of 13 schools.

Leigh Hobbs is a man of many talents: author, painter, illustrator and sculptor. Leigh was SIDE’s guest artist in February working with Year 7, 9 and 10 Art students. He recently completed two years as Australian Children’s Laureate, during which he promoted quality children’s literature.

Students from SIDE recently attended the Halogen National Young Leaders Day at the Perth Convention Centre. Year 12 students Alysa, Charlotte, Fleur and Imke were accompanied by Student Services Coordinator Stacey Mylonas. They attended sessions with students from throughout Western Australia.

Year 8 SIDE students are building solar cars as part of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) project for the Synergy Schools Solar Challenge. This initiative has been developed in partnership with the Science Teachers Association of WA.

Imagine a future free from cyberbullying!

SIDE will be hosting a special Cyber Safety Saba Event on March 23 at 1pm to come up with big ideas for a world free from cyberbullying.
