Secondary Assistance Scheme
The Western Australian Department of Education provides an allowance to assist eligible families with secondary schooling costs. To be eligible for the allowance the parent/guardian must hold a Services Australia (Centrelink) or Veterans’ Affairs card that represents a statement of income for the family. The allowance consists of two components:
- $300 Clothing Allowance paid directly to the parent/guardian or the school.
- $235 Educational Program Allowance paid directly to the school.
Application is made by the parent or guardian for student/s enrolled in Years 7–12 studying a full time secondary course.

Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme
A group of payments for parents and carers of children who can't go to a local government school because of geographical isolation, disability or special needs.

Study requirements
Your child needs to be studying full time. They must be doing primary, secondary or other approved study.
You may get Assistance for Isolated Children if your child does approved full time tertiary study because they don’t have access to a state secondary school.
Your child must also meet one of the following isolation conditions:
- be geographically isolated
- have a special education need
- have no reasonable access to a school, or
- meet a continuity condition.
