Student Services Awards

are presented to students who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to education in a distance mode. They are recognised by the Student Services team for their organisation and participation skills in this mode of learning.


  • Zachary Crowther

    Zachary Crowther has been a home based student this year, coming from Port Hedland SOTA at the end of 2014. He is to be congratulated on his mature and independent approach to his schooling via a distance mode.

    Zachary is a positive, enthusiastic and productive contributor to Saba across all of his courses and interacts well with his peers, often providing them with encouragement.

    Zachary is capable, organised and self-motivated, which has greatly assisted the successes he has had at SIDE. He actively seeks feedback from teachers and will make contact to discuss course content when required.

    His work ethic and excellent attitude have enabled him to complete all set task work requirements despite a number of occasions where the internet was unreliable, or the family had to be away for personal reasons. Zachary has always followedwork schedules and demonstrated good time management skills which have also contributed to his many successes this year.


  • Dixie Lynch

    Dixie has overcome a number of hurdles to make a successful transition to both secondary school, and to studying in the distance mode. Dixie is enthusiastic, hardworking and committed to her studies and this is clearly shown in her results. Her teachers have noted her perseverance in overcoming difficulties, her active participation in Saba and her wit! She has been a delight to teach.

    Sean Beer

    As one of SIDE’s remotest students living at Billiluna Station, Kururrungku Community on the Tanami Track in the East Kimberley, Sean has overcome significant challenges with distance to achieve excellent results. Despite unreliable internet access, Sean has worked diligently, independently and with enthusiasm. He is a mature and confident student who has impressed his teachers by being fully involved in the SIDE online learning community.

    Sally-Anne Bailey

    Sally-Anne has lived on a station in the Pilbara for most of the year. Technical difficulties and other circumstances have presented challenges for Sally-Anne. Despite this she has made a splendid effort to submit work, and is to be commended for her tenacity and good humour. Sally-Anne maintains excellent contact with her teachers and it is always fascinating to hear about her extremely busy and interesting life. She is mature, independent and responsible. Sally-Anne perseveres with her studies, is proactive in seeking help when needed, and makes the best use possible of her schooling at SIDE.


  • Nicholas McQueeney

    Nicholas is to be congratulated on his fantastic efforts with his SIDE studies in 2015. He sets a positive example to other students, regularly logging in to his online lessons in some unique environments. Nicholas is a conscientious student who is to be commended for his efforts, achieving particularly pleasing results whilst studying under challenging circumstances, travelling around Australia with his family.


  • Lara Fenna

    Lara has an admirable work ethic and the ability to reflect on her performance and make improvements. She has studied eight subjects with SIDE while engaged in a full-time dance program. Her teachers describe her as imaginative, innovative, resourceful and diligent. Lara is a mature, intelligent, independent student and committed to achieving excellent results in all areas of her life. She has the potential to succeed in whatever area she chooses.

The Clarence Eakins Award

is presented to a year 10 student in the form of a scholarship for their Year 11 studies. The award recognises the work of Clarence Eakins who established the Correspondence School, which later became SIDE, in 1918 and became its first Headmaster.

Year 10 - Daniel Downey
Daniel is an elite tennis player who has been studying with SIDE for the past two years. He has proven to be a very capable student who has adapted to the distance learning program by demonstrating strong organisational and communication skills.
Daniel displays a keen desire to perform to a high level in his academic pursuits and is a worthy recipient of the Clarence Eakins award.
