Two former SIDE students have been in action in the Tokyo Olympics this week.
Swimmer Tamsin Cook (2017) and tennis player Storm Sanders (2011) studied with SIDE during their senior school years while training and attending competitions. Both have maintained contact with SIDE over the years.
Tamsin Cook
At 16 years, Tamsin was the youngest member of the Olympic swimming team at the Rio Olympics where she won a silver medal as part of the 4x200m freestyle relay team and finished 6th in her individual event. After a car accident in 2018 she retired from swimming, focussing instead on her academic studies at UWA. During 2020 she returned to the pool and enjoyed it after being away from the sport for two years. Six months after returning to elite training, Tamsin recorded a career best time of 4:04.10 in the 400m freestyle event at the 2021 Olympic trials qualifying for the Tokyo 2021 Team.

Storm Sanders
While at SIDE, Storm pursued her tennis career while travelling to competitions interstate and overseas. After her WACE graduation, she went to on a tennis scholarship to Melbourne. Her performance in 2021 has resulted in career-best rankings in both doubles and singles. She is ranked No. 41 in doubles and No.134 in singles. This is her inaugural Olympics.
