2020 has been an extraordinary year, and students across the world have had their education affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
For SIDE Year 12 students, there was a taste of normality on 20 November, when along with their guests, they attended a ceremony to celebrate the end of their formal schooling.
The event was held at our Leederville campus and streamed through Webex. 49 students attended in person. accompanied by about 110 of their friends and family.
The live event allowed students in regional WA, other parts of Australia, and overseas to participate.
Due to social distancing requirements, many SIDE staff and more than 110 of the students’ friends and family viewed the streamed ceremony from locations across the Leederville site. Guest speaker and former SIDE student, Jared Fitzclarence connected via Webex to the ceremony from his workplace in Karratha. Jared’s inspiring speech prompted a lot of discussion after the ceremony.
The celebration didn’t end with the formal ceremony. On a beautiful spring day, our school gardens were a perfect venue for morning tea served in open-sided marquees. Year 12 Leavers, their guests and SIDE Year 12 teachers, were able to get together to discuss the ceremony and their plans for the future.
The Principal and staff congratulate all Year 12s Leavers and Award Winners, at SIDE and in our partner schools, and wish them every success in the future.
