SIDE’s secondary Orientation Program has grown due to parent and student demand in 2019.

On Friday 13 December, about 100 parents and students who are enrolling at SIDE in 2020 participated in orientation activities at the Leederville campus. The morning orientation program was intended mainly for home-based students, although some school-based students who were visiting Perth also attended. The onsite Orientation Program complements a school-based online induction program conducted by Student Services in Term 4.

Parents and students were able to tour SIDE, taking in the Library Resource Centre, student areas and specialist rooms. They were also able to talk to school leaders, the Student Services team and teachers to find out more about teaching and learning at SIDE. All students participated in fun online learning activities. Year 7-9 students were able to participate in Art and Design and Technology sessions while Year 10-12s attended a session on preparing to study at SIDE.

SIDE Student Services Coordinator Vicki Masters said “Students who participate in orientation programs benefit enormously as they are better prepared and more confident to start their online learning journey at SIDE.”
