SIDE Year 11 and 12 Visual Arts students’ artwork have been selected for display in several exhibitions in the Perth metropolitan area during July and August.
Richard Wu, Year 12 ATAR Visual Arts teacher, says this have been a bumper year for selection to exhibit and is a reflection on the talent and hard work of SIDE Art students.
Exhibitions in which SIDE students will be displayed include:
Artworks by Year 12s Nikki Singh, Leia Stratford and Senay Gulkesen have been selected for display in the St George’s Art Exhibition and the META Art and Design Exhibition. Elinor Wright’s artwork joins those of Nikki, Leia and Senay in the Young Originals Exhibition.
St George’s Art is an annual event in art education and provides an opportunity for students in Year 10, 11 and 12 to display their work in the unique setting of St George’s Cathedral. 172 art pieces will be on display from 20–28 July, 10am-4pm.
North Metropolitan TAFE (NMT) presents the META Art and Design Exhibition. The exhibition showcases innovative and exciting creative works completed by Year 11 and 12 students enrolled in Visual Art/ Design or Media courses. META 2019 will be on show at Gallery Central, 12 Aberdeen Street Perth, 5-24 August, Mon-Fri 10am-4.30pm and Sat 12-4pm.
The Young Originals Exhibition promotes excellence in the visual arts. Works will be displayed at Gallery 25, Edith Cowan University, 2 Bradford Street, Mt Lawley 11-23 August.
Nikki Singh’s work, Tribus, is also a successful entrant in the 17th annual Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists presented by the City of Subiaco. This visual arts award is open to Western Australian school students. Overall 1300 entries were received for five categories. Ten works are selected in each category. Nikki’s work was selected in the Upper Secondary Category for Year 10, 11 and 12. The artworks can be viewed in the 2019 Shaun Tan Exhibition at the Subiaco Library 9 July-4 August.
