Our teachers were back at work yesterday preparing and planning for Term 2.
Staff attended some excellent Aboriginal education sessions including:
Yirra Yarkin – Moorditj Wirlya (Strong Heart) presented by Zac James, Wongi/Yamatji actor and writer. Zac enlightened our staff about the latest productions and programs designed to create short dramatic works around the ideas of culture, identity and belonging.
South West Land and Sea Council: Native Title State Government settlement journey presented by Gail Beck.
Urban Indigenous – The Stolen Generation Local Elder Mrs Sheila Humphries shared her personal account, the heartache experienced, the real challenges met and the true history that is the Stolen Generation. Her story also revealed individual triumph over tragedy, lessons of forgiveness, ongoing commitments to Reconciliation, and positive change for Aboriginal families and Aboriginal Australia.
Thank you to the presenters for sharing their experiences and contributing to the ongoing SIDE staff learning journey. Some amazing insights were gained.
