Two SIDE students recently competed in the Gymnix Competition in Montreal Canada. This competition brings together 1,200 female athletes from 15 countries around the world to participate in the event. Several world powers in gymnastics, including the United States, Australia, Belgium, France and Japan were represented.
Olena Edmeades and Sidney Stephens were chosen to represent Australia.
Olena was selected as part of the Australian Junior Cup team. The team placed 4th overall in a strong field of teams. This is the first year Olena has been age eligible for selection for Australia. She enjoyed the experiences as the youngest team member, and performed well with two of her apparatus scores counting towards the final team result.
Sidney represented Australia as a senior. Her preparation did not go quite to plan as she had a training mishap on the bars after arrival in Canada, however she was pleased with her overall performance as she gained more experience through the competition, competing a new skill on the vault on an international stage, and she produced a solid floor routine.
