Our home-based students are involved in a myriad of activities whilst studying at SIDE. Here is an outline of one student’s extracurricular activities.

dominique caroDominique – Year 11 – The World Scholar’s Cup

I entered an academic competition called the The World Scholar’s Cup aimed at high school students. You have to be in a group of three to enter. There were four events we had to compete in - a mix of individual and group events, including debating, writing, scholars bowl and scholars challenge (individual event), with three rounds all together. My team competed in the regional round in Bangkok, Thailand, where we acquired enough points to qualify for the global round in Melbourne, Australia. The global round was tougher as we competed against the best teams from other countries and there were more teams we went up against (over 600 teams). Fortunately, our team was one of the few selected to be invited to the Tournament of Champions held in Yale University, America in November. This is the last round where we’ll be going up against the best of the best, competing in the same four events as mentioned before.

We wish Dominique every success for the Tournament of Champions later this year.
