A team of Year 8 students represented SIDE in the Synergy Schools Solar Challenge regional heats at Newman College on Thursday 5 April. The team of Issy, Jacqleen and Ella won the SIDE Solar Car Challenge, and went on to achieve third place in a field of 13 schools.
Students received a kit of materials upon arrival at Newman College from which they constructed the car that would be used on the day. They needed to draw upon their STEM learning experiences throughout the term at SIDE and construct and test their new car in one hour prior to racing against the other schools’ teams.
