2026 | Term 1 | Week 5 - Southern Cross & Merredin
In Week 5, the Mini Industry Roadshow visited Southern Cross and Merredin, delivering hands‑on learning in Roofing and Plumbing, Medical Research, and Construction. Year 9 students gained practical skills, explored real‑world applications, and discovered future career pathways across three key industries.
Medical Research – Harry Perkins Institute
Students participated in an interactive laboratory simulation, working together to “find a cure” while learning about scientific techniques, lab safety, and evidence‑based decision making. The workshop strengthened their understanding of medical science and highlighted diverse careers in the health and biomedical sectors.
Roofing and Plumbing
Finn led a practical session focused on safe tool use and basic plumbing techniques. Students also picked up helpful tips they can apply at home, building confidence in everyday problem‑solving and gaining insight into trade‑based career options.
Construction
Nathan introduced students to essential construction tools and accurate measuring methods. Students created their own take‑home projects and learned about the wide range of opportunities within the construction industry, from apprenticeships to specialised trade roles.
