2025 | Term 4 | Week 8
In Term 4, the School of Isolated and Distance Education travelled to the picturesque towns of Pemberton and Northcliffe, bringing exciting learning opportunities directly to students. The Mini Industry Roadshow’s professional industry trainers visited Pemberton District High School and Northcliffe District High School, where students enthusiastically took part in engaging, hands-on workshops in Medical Research, Plumbing, and Cabinetry.
Cabinetry: Nathan from Cabinetry-in-Schools delivered an engaging and inspiring session that gave students the opportunity to learn hands-on woodworking and design skills. He taught students how to safely use tools, measure accurately, and understand why precision and attention to detail are essential in the construction industry. Throughout the fun and fast-paced workshop, Nathan also explained the many career pathways available within the trades sector. Students finished the session with a keen sense of achievement, having applied their learning to create a personalised take-home project that highlighted both their creativity and newly developed practical skills.
Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research: In this workshop, students were offered the opportunity to step into the shoes of medical researchers, learning about innovative advancements in the field and engaging in fascinating activities on the future of medical research. The hands-on workshop captivated students as they collaborated in a simulated laboratory to “find a cure.” This experience not only ignited a passion for science among the students but also broadened their horizons about potential career paths in the medical and healthcare industry.
Plumbing: The hands-on ‘Basics of Plumbing’ workshop really captured the students’ interest. They were introduced to a range of essential plumbing tools and learned how to use them safely and effectively. Our professional trainer, Finnian, shared practical tips and tricks that students could apply at home or in their communities, helping them gain confidence in tackling everyday plumbing tasks. The workshop also covered the importance of water conservation and how responsible plumbing practices can make a significant difference to both the environment and household efficiency.
Thank you to Pemberton DHS and Northcliffe DHS for welcoming us into your school community. We hope the experience helped students identify potential career opportunities and sparked their curiosity to further explore future pathways.
