2025 | Term 3 | Week 9
SIDE’s Career Department was delighted to bring our highly successful Mini Industry Roadshow (MiR) to Laverton School in the goldfield’s region.
The Roadshow delivered a series of hands-on experiences with interactive learning and an invaluable glimpse into potential careers while reinforcing SIDE’s commitment to delivering educational opportunities to remote and regional communities all over Western Australia. SIDE delivered practical workshops for the students that explored three different industry areas: plumbing, hospitality, and cabinetry.
Hospitality: Bonnie provided students with an exciting introduction to the vast opportunities within the hospitality industry. Through fast-paced and interactive activities, students experienced the energy of a bustling café setting. They honed essential customer service skills, learning how to deliver professionalism while collaborating effectively in a team. The workshop also included a hands-on introduction to coffee making, adding a creative and enjoyable aspect to their learning journey.
Plumbing: Finnian SIDE’s trainer provided an amazing hands-on workshop in the 'Basics of Plumbing' which enthralled and excited the students. They learned about essential plumbing tools, how to use them effectively, valuable tips and tricks they can use in their communities and gained insights on water conservation and other responsible practices. This workshop helped teach students to be independent, strong, and able to manage simple plumbing issues that will be helpful for both now and in the future.
Carpentry: Nathan shared his knowledge of design and the importance of accuracy when working in the construction industry as well as the career opportunities in many trades areas. Students walked away with a unique understanding of the industry as well as a creative take home project using their artist ideas as well as their wood crafting skills.
We had a tremendous time working with students from Laverton School. SIDE is proud to continue supporting and nurturing young budding talents and the communities they live in. The Mini Industry Roadshow provided valuable insights into potential career pathways, creating opportunities to question, seek, and explore new opportunities.
