2025 | Term 3 | Week 6
The Mini Industry Roadshow recently visited the Pilbara region of Western Australia taking our career workshops to visit Jigalong Remote Community School and Tom Price Senior High School. Tom Price and Jigalong are both remote communities in Western Australia's Pilbara region. The students had the opportunity to explore various industries and career pathways that they might not have otherwise considered in the areas of marine biology and tourism, cabinetry, and plumbing.
Marine Biology and Tourism: Gianna who specialises in sharks, whale sharks, and orcas conducted a hands-on discovery sessions about what students can find on a beach and the importance of maintaining clean and healthy waterways for the benefit of all life on earth. The students explored how microplastics are a major concern for our environment and the impact the microscopic material has on our lives. The students contributed their ideas on how to reuse, reduce, recycle in their communities. Gianna’s workshops also gave students an opportunity to design and role play running a tour business, using their local region and knowledge. It was a fun and informative learning experience for the students.
Carpentry: The Cabinetry-in-Schools session by Nathan was an inspiring and immersive experience, where Nathan shared his expertise in design, emphasizing the critical role of precision and accuracy in the carpentry industry. He also highlighted the diverse career opportunities available across various trade sectors. Students left the session not only with a deeper understanding of the industry but also with a sense of accomplishment, having completed a personalised take-home project. These projects highlighted their artistic creativity and newly honed woodworking skills, leaving students both proud and motivated.
Plumbing: Finnian’s hands-on workshop entailed basic skills in plumbing and water filtration, exposed student to the basics of the trade including essential plumbing tools, pipe fitting, leak detection and repair, safety practices and water pressure management. It was a fun and engaging workshop, were students gained valuable insights on water conservation and other responsible practices. Teaching students to be self-reliant, resilient, and capable of handling basic plumbing tasks will benefit them both now and in the future.
Thank you Jigalong and Tom Price for welcoming the Mini Industry Roadshow to your community.
