2025 | Term 3 | Weeks 5
SIDE’s Career Department was delighted to bring our highly successful Mini Industry Roadshow (MiR) to Exmouth in the Midwest region during Term 3.
Nestled between national parks and pastoral lands, Exmouth is the gateway to the spectacular, World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Marine Park. At the heart of this unique location is Exmouth District High School—an Independent Public School that proudly upholds its motto: "A Beacon of Learning, an Ocean of Opportunities." As part of this commitment to inspiring futures, SIDE’s Mini Industry Roadshow brought a dynamic series of interactive, hands-on workshops to the school, giving students meaningful insight into potential career pathways in medical research, hospitality, and rigging.
Harry Perkins Medical Research: Students were offered the opportunity to step into the shoes of medical researchers, learning about innovative advancements in the field and engaging in fascinating activities on the future of medical research. The hands-on workshop captivated students as they worked collaboratively in a simulated laboratory to “find a cure.” This experience not only ignited a passion for science among the students but also broadened their horizons about potential career paths in the medical and healthcare industry.
Hospitality: Bonnie delivered a fun, energetic, and highly interactive workshop that gave students an exciting glimpse into the world of hospitality. Through a hands-on café simulation, students stepped into real-world roles all while experiencing the fast-paced environment of the hospitality industry. The session was not only engaging but also packed with valuable skills that students can use in part-time jobs or future careers. They learned how to communicate with customers, manage time under pressure, and work effectively as a team—skills that are essential in any workplace.
All Directions Performance and Rigging: Aidan introduced the students to the dynamic high-energy industry of professional rigging and construction. Students engaged in rope skills, working at heights, WHS for rigging, and teamwork skills. Students also explored pulleys, levers and other lifting systems work, mathematics for rigging such as calculating weight distribution, safety awareness, communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform physical tasks. It was a terrific hands-on experience.
The Mini Industry Roadshow experience from SIDE supported the students of Exmouth DHS in developing their employable skills and gave the students an authentic insight into the day to day working conditions of these industries while reinforcing SIDE’s commitment to delivering educational opportunities.
