2025 | Term 3 | Week 2 | Yandeyarra, Marble Bar, Nullagine
SIDE’S travelling careers incursion, The Mini Industry Roadshow, had the absolute delight of visiting Western Australia’s Pilbara region to visit Yandeyarra Remote Community School, Marble Primary School, and Nullagine Primary School. SIDE had the privilege of engaging with these communities, bringing together students and professional trainers in a series of workshops across diverse fields including medical research, hospitality, and electrical engineering.
Electrical Engineering: Blake wowed the students with the exciting world of electrical engineering, giving them a firsthand look at its incredible potential. He also talked about his other career as a skydiver and how he combines both fields in a way that’s totally unique and inspiring.
Hospitality: Bonnie engaged the students in a fun role-playing workshop introducing the students to the enormous potential of the hospitality industry. The industry offers flexible pathways and opportunities to work in a direct service capacity and the prospect to move into higher-trained roles, including management and leadership positions. The students engaged in high-paced activities simulating a busy café environment. They learned how to use customer service skills in a professional manner and the importance of working within a team.
Harry Perkins Medical Research: Students were offered the opportunity to step into the shoes of medical researchers, learning about innovative advancements in the field and engaging in fascinating activities on the future of medical research. The hands-on workshop captivated students as they worked collaboratively in a simulated laboratory to “find a cure.” This experience not only ignited a passion for science among the students but also broadened their horizons about potential career paths in the medical and healthcare industry.
SIDE is proud to support regional and remote students through immersive career experiences that inspire, educate, and expand possibilities. Our visit to the Pilbara was a memorable opportunity to connect with young learners and highlight the diverse pathways available to them in today’s evolving workforce.
