Cabinetry: Nathan from Cabinetry-in-Schools ran a fun, fast-paced workshop that gave students a great introduction to woodwork and design. He shared insights into why accuracy and attention to detail are important in construction, as well as explored the vast career options available in trades. Students got stuck into hands-on projects, using their creativity and skills to make something they could take home.

Community and Public Artwork: Siahne led an inspiring workshop that was both engaging and interactive. Throughout the session, students learned how to craft models from simple materials that represented expansive artworks. As part of the process, the students exhibited their creations in a mini exhibition, offering a glimpse into the impact of public art, plus also gaining valuable insights into the business side of the art world.

Plumbing: The hands-on Basics of Plumbing workshop, led by Finnian, really captured the students’ interest. They were introduced to a range of essential plumbing tools and learned how to use them safely and effectively. Finnian shared practical tips and tricks that students could apply at home or in their communities, helping them gain confidence in tackling everyday plumbing tasks. The workshop also covered the importance of water conservation and how responsible plumbing practices can make a significant difference to both the environment and household efficiency. More than just technical skills, the session encouraged independence, problem-solving, and resilience—giving students valuable knowledge they can use now and well into the future.

The Mini Industry Roadshow was a wonderful success and helped students explore different career paths and learn from industry professionals in a fun and exciting day of learning.

Dear Crystal and the Career Taster Team,

On behalf of Burringurrah Remote Community School, I would like to extend our deepest thanks for the outstanding Career Taster sessions recently delivered to our upper primary and high school students.

These opportunities are incredibly rare for our students due to the remoteness of our community, and we cannot overstate how valuable and inspiring this experience was. The sessions were not only culturally responsive and age-appropriate, but also full of hands-on, engaging learning that captured the interest and imagination of every student—and staff member, too!

Our teachers particularly appreciated how interactive the sessions were. Plumbing with Finn, woodwork with Nat, and sculpture with Siahne were amazing. Each presenter brought passion, patience, and creativity to their session, making the activities meaningful and fun. ‘I thoroughly enjoyed the Mini Industry Roadshow. I thought the group I was in was thoroughly engaged in all activities and got to see Keisha, who is not a usual school attendee, shine.’ From our senior class teacher.

Crystal, you are so lovely, warm, and welcoming. Your kindness and professionalism made a big impact, and we are already looking forward to the next opportunity to work with you and the new team, hopefully next term.

These kinds of programs open doors for our students that they may not otherwise know exist. Thank you for including Burringurrah RCS and showing our students that there are many exciting and achievable pathways ahead of them, AND they will be able to fix their own leaky taps!’

Principal- Burringurrah
