2025 | Term 2 | Week 3

SIDE’s Mini Industry Roadshow had the privilege of visiting WA’s wonderful Dampier Peninsula. Our team of professional workshop trainers was honoured to travel to this remote, rugged, and breathtakingly beautiful region to deliver hands-on workshops and share valuable career information with local students at the four major communities: One Arm Point (Ardyaloon), Djarindjin, Lombadina, and Beagle Bay.

Plumbing:

Finnian ran a fun and hands-on workshop all about the basics of plumbing. Students got to check out real tools, learn how to use them properly, and pick up handy tips and tricks they can use at home or in their community. By the end of the session, students felt more confident and ready to take on simple plumbing jobs, which can be a useful skill they can use now and later in life.

Hospitality:

Bonnie gave students a fun and energetic look into the world of hospitality. Through fast-paced, interactive activities, they got a feel for what it’s like to work in a busy café. Students practised key customer service skills and learned how to work well as part of a team. One of the highlights was getting hands-on with coffee-making, which added a creative and enjoyable twist to the workshop.

Carpentry: Cabinetry-in-schools:

Nathan shared his knowledge of design and the importance of accuracy when working in the construction industry, as well as the vast amount of career opportunities available in this field. Students walked away with an understanding of the industry as well as small take-home projects using their artistic ideas as well as their woodcrafting skills.

It was a privilege to work with the students of these communities to support their future career pathways and training opportunities.
