2025 | Term 1 | Week 10
SIDE’s travelling careers incursion, The Mini Industry Roadshow, had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Western Australian Midwest recently and engaging with students from Mullewa District High School and Northampton District High School.
The workshops delved into various fields: Hairdressing, Rigging, and Arts Development. In these workshops, trainers brought together a unique blend of industry expertise and hands-on experience to inspire and challenge students.
All Directions Performance and Rigging: Aidan introduced the students to the dynamic, high-energy industry of professional rigging and construction. Students engaged in rope skills, working at heights, WHS for rigging, and teamwork skills. Students also explored how pulleys, levers and other lifting systems work, maths for rigging such as calculating weight distribution, safety awareness, communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform physical tasks. It was a terrific hands-on experience.
Arts Development: Siahne led a workshop that introduced students to the world of public art, focusing on large-scale creations designed for community spaces. Throughout the session, students learned how to craft models from simple materials that represented expansive artworks. The workshop was both engaging and interactive. As part of the process, the students showcased their creations in a mini exhibition, offering a glimpse into the impact of public art. They also gained valuable insights into the business side of art, including how to monetise their work, the art of curation, and the ins and outs of working in galleries.
Hairdressing/hair hygiene: Pauline, our wonderful hairdressing trainer, guided students through the importance of hair hygiene as a key aspect of overall health and cleanliness. They learned essential tips for maintaining a healthy scalp and well-groomed hair. To add a creative touch, Pauline shared her expertise in styling, teaching students how to braid, colour wrap, bead, and incorporate feathers as stylish adornments.
A heartfelt thank you to Mullewa District High School, Northampton District High School, and most importantly, to the inspiring and incredible students for warmly welcoming us and enthusiastically participating in the Mini Industry Roadshow.
