2025 | Term 1 | Week 9
Mini Industry Roadshow recently visited the incredible remote communities of Mount Magnet District High School, Meekatharra District High School, and Cue Primary School, where our trainers engaged the students in an array of practical hands-on skills attainment sessions in Cabinet Making/Carpentry, Marine Biology, and Electrical Engineering & Sky Diving. The sessions not only actively trained students in useful skills but also provided invaluable insights into various trades and potential future pathways for the youth of these remote communities.
Cabinetry: Nathan from Cabinetry-in-Schools ran an inspiring session where he shared his expertise in working with wood and design while emphasising the critical role of precision and accuracy used in the construction industry. The diversity of career opportunities available through the trades sector was highlighted in this fun and fast-paced workshop. Students left the session not only with a deeper understanding of the industry but also with a sense of accomplishment, having completed a personalised take-home project.
Electrical Engineering & Sky Diving: Blake excited and impressed students with the amazing world of electrical engineering and its practical use in the high-risk worlds of motorsports and sky diving. Students developed practical skills in connecting and correcting circuit boards and powering mini devices. Blake engaged students in expanding their understanding of the industry of electrical engineering and showed them how, through his other career as a skydiver, he blends these two industries seamlessly.
Marine Biology: Gianna who specialises in sharks, whale sharks, and orcas conducted a hands-on discovery session about what students can find in and around the world’s oceans and the importance of maintaining clean and healthy waterways for the benefit of all life on earth. The students explored how microplastics are a major concern for our environment and the impact the microscopic material has on our lives. The students contributed their ideas on how to reuse, reduce, recycle in their communities. It was a fun and informative learning experience for the students which showed them the many different career pathways and jobs the ocean provides.
We had a tremendous time working with students from Mount Magnet, Cue, and Meekatharra. SIDE is proud to continue supporting and nurturing young budding talents and the communities they live in.
Thank you
You and your team are so engaging for our students.
I had the opportunity to visit all three sessions, and the student participation warmed my heart. Thank you for including us at the last moment. Please keep us in the loop for future visits or other opportunities we can look at participating in.
