2025 | Term 1 | Week 4

SIDE’S Career Development was thrilled that we could take our highly successful Mini Industry Roadshow (MiR) to the Southwest region to visit Kojonup District High School, Wagin District High School, and Boddington District High School. The visit offered students dynamic and interactive hands-on workshops in cabinetry, hospitality, and marine biology designed to develop practical skills while sparking curiosity and interest in various industry areas and future career pathways.

Cabinetry: Nathan from Cabinetry-in-Schools ran an inspiring session where he shared his expertise in working with wood and design while emphasizing the critical role of precision and accuracy used in the construction industry. The diversity of career opportunities available through the trade sector was highlighted in this fun and fast-paced workshop. Students left the session not only with a deeper understanding of the industry but also with a sense of accomplishment, having completed a personalised take-home project.

Hospitality: Bonnie engaged the students in a fun role-playing workshop which introduced the students to the enormous potential of the hospitality industry. The students engaged the high-paced activities that simulated a busy café environment. They learned how to use customer service skills in a professional manner and the importance of working within a team. Additionally, they explored the art of short-order coffee service, adding an exciting element to their experience.

Marine Biology: Gianna who specialises in sharks, whale sharks, and orcas conducted a hands-on discovery session about what students can find in and around our world’s oceans and the importance of maintaining clean and healthy waterways for the benefit of all life on earth. The students explored how microplastics are a major concern for our environment and the impact the microscopic material has on our lives. The students contributed their ideas on how to reuse, reduce, and recycle in their communities. It was a fun and informative learning experience for the students.

We were thrilled we could take SIDE’S Mini Industry Roadshow workshops to students from Kojonup District High School, Wagin District High School, and Boddington District High School.
