SIDE’s Mini Industry Roadshow and our team of industry professionals had the pleasure of bringing its high-energy hands-on workshops to the magnificent Wheatbelt schools of Mukinbudin District High School and Wyalkatchem District High School.
SIDE’s Mini Industry roadshow brought 3 amazing industries to the students, providing excellent industry knowledge and training:
All Directions Performance and Rigging: Aidan introduced the students to the dynamic high-energy industry of professional rigging and construction. Students engaged in rope skills, working at heights, WHS for rigging, and teamwork skills. Students also explored pulleys, levers and other lifting systems work, maths for rigging such as calculating weight distribution, safety awareness, communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform physical tasks. It was a terrific hands-on experience.
Hospitality: Bonnie introduced students to the enormous potential of the hospitality industry. Students engaged in high-paced, fun, and exciting activities simulating a busy café environment. Students developed how to use important customer service skills in a professional manner and the importance of being able to work within a team. The workshop also featured an engaging introduction to the art of coffee making, adding a creative and enjoyable dimension to their learning experience.
Cabinetry: Nathan from Cabinetry-in-Schools gave students an exciting opportunity to work with wood and explore career pathways in the construction industry. This hands-on experience provided them with skills in measuring and cutting, joinery techniques, and tool proficiency. Students left the session with a deeper understanding of the industry as well as a personalised take-home project.
