2024 | Term 4 | Week 6

SIDE’s travelling careers incursion, The Mini Industry Roadshow, had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Western Australian wheatbelt region visiting Boddington District High School, Lake Grace District High School, Kulin District High School, and Corrigin District High School.

It was a pleasure for SIDE to visit these four amazing schools and engage students in our hands-on workshops by professional industry trainers in their fields of electrical engineering & sky diving, hospitality, and cabinetry.

Students of Kulin District High School
Marine Biology: Gianna with students of Boddington District High School
Cabinetry: Nathan with students of Corrigin District High School
Electrical Engineering & Sky Diving: Blake excited and impressed students with the amazing world of electrical engineering and its practical use in the high-risk worlds of motorsports and sky diving. Students developed practical skills in connecting and correcting circuit boards and powering their mini devices. Blake engaged students in expanding their understanding of the industry of electrical engineering and showed them how, through his other career as a skydiver, he blends these two industries seamlessly.
Marine Biology: Gianna who specialises in sharks, whale sharks, and orcas conducted a hands-on discovery session about what students can find on a beach and the importance of maintaining clean and healthy waterways for the benefit of all life on earth. The students explored how microplastics are a major concern for our environment and the impact the microscopic material has on our lives. The students contributed their ideas on how to reuse, reduce, recycle in their communities. It was a fun and informative learning experience for the students.
Cabinetry: Nathan from Cabinetry-in-Schools ran an inspiring session where he shared his expertise in working with wood and design while emphasizing the critical role of precision and accuracy used in the construction industry. The diversity of career opportunities available through the trades sector was highlighted in this fun and fast-paced workshop. Students left the session not only with a deeper understanding of the industry but also with a sense of accomplishment, having completed a personalised take-home project. These projects showcased their artistic creativity and newly honed woodworking skills, leaving them both proud and motivated.

The Wheatbelt Mini Industry Roadshow was a resounding success, inspiring and equipping students with valuable insights into their future career possibilities. Through partnerships with esteemed organisations and industry professionals, SIDE ensured that students in remote and regional areas gained access to exceptional educational and career opportunities.
