The SIDE Career Department was thrilled to deliver its highly acclaimed Mini Industry Roadshow (MiR) to Southern Cross District High School, Kellerberrin District High School, and Quairading District High School.
The visit offered students dynamic and interactive hands-on workshops in rigging, hospitality, and medical research from Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, designed to develop practical skills while sparking curiosity and interest in various industry areas.
Rigging: Aidan from All Directions Performance and Rigging introduced the students to the dynamic high-energy industry of professional rigging and the widespread career opportunities to which it can lead. In his workshop, Aidan explained how pulleys, levers, and other lifting systems work, how mathematics such as calculating weight distribution and distance measurement play a large role in the industry, and how safety awareness, being clear with communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform physical tasks are necessary for this career pathway.
Medical Research: Students were given the opportunity to step into the shoes of medical researchers, learning about innovative advancements in the field and engaging in fascinating activities on the future of medical research. The hands-on workshop captivated students as they worked collaboratively in a simulated laboratory to “find a cure”. This experience not only ignited a passion for science among the students but also broadened their horizons about potential career paths in the medical and healthcare industry.
Hospitality: Bonnie captivated students with a lively and interactive role-playing workshop, highlighting the immense opportunities within the hospitality industry. Through a high-energy café simulation, students experienced the fast-paced nature of the field while honing their professional customer service skills and understanding the critical importance of teamwork. The workshop also featured an engaging introduction to the art of coffee making, adding a creative and enjoyable dimension to their learning experience.
We were thrilled we could take SIDE’S Mini Industry Roadshow workshops to students from Southern Cross DHS, Kellerberrin DHS, and Quairading DHS.
