2024 | Term 4 | Week 1

The SIDE Career Department was delighted to bring our highly acclaimed Mini Industry Roadshow (MiR) to Carnamah District High School and Wongan Hills District High School during Term 4. These visits provided students with engaging, hands-on workshops focused on practical skills training.

Students delved into workshops on electrical engineering, cabinet making and hairdressing. In these workshops trainers brought together a unique blend of industry expertise and hands-on experience directly to students.

Carpentry: Nathan presented students with an in-depth look at cabinet making by Carpentry-in-Schools. This workshop empowered students with expert knowledge of the field and explored the multiple employment possibilities if they choose a career path in this industry. It was a fun hands-on workshop, giving students the opportunity to work and create with wood with expert guidance.

Electrical Engineering: Blake excited and impressed the students with his knowledge of electrical engineering and its practical use in the high-risk worlds of motor sports. Students developed practical skills in connecting and correcting circuit boards and powering their mini devices. Blake also spoke to the students about skydiving and how he blends this with his electrical engineering career, highlighting the key requirements such as mental alertness, the ability to follow directions and heightened self-awareness, both individually and in relation to others – skills that are highly transferrable to other industries.

Hairdressing/hair hygiene: Pauline, our wonderful hairdressing trainer, had students explore how taking care of your hair is an important part of overall health and cleanliness. The students learned what you need to know about maintaining good hair hygiene and keeping your scalp heathy. For a touch of creative fun, Pauline shared her expertise by teaching students how to braid, colour wrap, bead, and incorporate feathers as stylish adornments.

A heartfelt thank you to Carnamah District High School, and Wongan Hills District High School – and most importantly, to the inspiring and incredible students – for warmly welcoming us and enthusiastically participating in the Mini Industry Roadshow.
