Recently, SIDE'S Mini Industry Roadshow undertook an amazing tour to the Midwest region of Western Australia visiting Shark Bay School. This amazing location is home to The Shark Bay World Heritage Area covering 2.2 million hectares on the coast of Western Australia, which was an incredible environment to showcase our highly successful SIDE workshops.
Students from the school experienced the amazing opportunity of training with industry professionals in the fields of Hospitality, Carpentry and Cabinet Making, and Rigging.
Hospitality: Bonnie Blewitt engaged the students in a fun role-playing workshop which introduced the students to the enormous potential of the hospitality industry. The students engaged in high-paced activities simulating a busy café environment. They learned how to use customer service skills in a professional manner and the importance of working within a team. Additionally, they explored the art of coffee making, adding an exciting element to their experience.
Carpentry: Nathan Kell from Carpentry-in-Schools ran an exciting opportunity for students to work with wood and create their unique projects. This hands-on experience provided them with skills in measuring and cutting, joinery techniques, tool proficiency, problem-solving, attention to detail, mathematical skills, creativity, and safety awareness.
Rigging: Aidan Bayliss from All Directions Rigging and Performance introduced the students to the dynamic high-energy industry of professional rigging and the widespread career opportunities to which it can lead. In his workshop Aidan explained how pulleys, levers, and other lifting systems work, basic maths such as calculating weight distribution, safety awareness, being clear with communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform physical tasks. It was a terrific hands-on experience.
Students gained valuable insights into potential career pathways and were inspired to question, seek, and explore new opportunities. Thank you, Shark Bay, for welcoming us, we thoroughly enjoyed visiting your school.
