SIDE’s travelling careers incursion, The Mini Industry Roadshow had the delightful pleasure of visiting the Western Australian Southwest region to engage students from Mount Barker Community College and St Joseph’s College.
With SIDE’s ongoing commitment to delivering quality services to all schools in Western Australia we were able to provide the students with three amazing hands-on skills training workshops with industry professionals in the fields of medical research, hospitality and rigging.
Medical Research; Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research has grown to become one of the nation's leading medical research centres. They are leading the way to tackling the world’s biggest health issues and their presenter Steven Blake shared and inspired students to explore a career in medical research and STEM through firsthand fun activities.
Hospitality; Bonnie Blewitt introduced students to the enormous potential of the hospitality industry. Interpersonal skills relevant to the hospitality industry including communication and teamwork were explored in this workshop. Students learned how to greet customers, deliver, and take orders as well as seeing the importance of being able to work in a team. These skills are valuable and transferrable to any industry and career pathway.
Trade; Aiden from All Directions Performance and Rigging introduced the students to the dynamic high-energy industry of professional rigging, working at heights, safety for construction, and the widespread career opportunities in this industry.
The Mini Industry Roadshow was an outstanding success, leaving students inspired, informed, and excited about their future career paths. Such initiatives play a pivotal role in shaping students into well-rounded individuals ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow's workforce. With the support of the Department of Training and Workforce Development, SIDE is able to offer these great workshops to schools across the state.
