STUDENTS       DOE STAFF

Three SIDE students are to represent WA in Canberra.

We are delighted to announce that Kimberly from Fitzroy Valley, Kenneth from Burringurrah and Lexie from Laverton will be representing SIDE, their community, and the state of Western Australia at the Heywire Summit in Canberra in early 2024.

As our 2024 ABC Heywire National Storytelling Winners, they will spend a busy week engaging in leadership and issues-based training; working with other emerging youth leaders to develop solutions for the challenges facing our youth in rural, regional and remote Australia; and presenting these at Parliament House

Listen to:

11Kimberly
Year 11 student Kimberly’s story:
The course of rivers changed. Ancient trees were ripped from the ground - ABC Heywire

12Kenneth
Year 12 student Kenneth’s story:
We live in a beautiful place, but the tap water could give us cancer - ABC Heywire

12Lexie

Even when there's nothing to do in this town, I can run and feel free - ABC Heywire

The SIDE community congratulates Kenneth, Lexie and Kimberly on being powerful storytellers and sharing their important stories, written as part of their SIDE English studies. We wish them the very best as they take this opportunity to share their stories, cultural knowledge and leadership skills with others at a national level at the Heywire Summit.
