New students to SIDE attended an Orientation Day on Friday December 7th. Students attending reflected SIDE’s diverse enrolment groups; regional and dance students, elite athletes, and Australian and Overseas travellers.

Red Room Poetry Object is Australasia’s largest free poetry-writing competition for students and teachers. Poetry Object invites young writers to create, publish and submit poems inspired by special objects.

The SIDE Languages department has been long recognised as a centre for excellence in K-12 language education. We teach French, Indonesian, Italian and Japanese, and through the SIDE Primary Languages Program offer online learning programs to students in regional schools where a face-to-face languages teacher may not be available.

SIDE’s Open Day on Friday 16 November brought together past and present staff, students and their families to celebrate 100 years of distance education.

In 2018 more than a hundred Year 10 to 12 students enrolled in a popular on-the-job program at SIDE that can be used as part of WACE. The workplaces are diverse and many are located within or near students’ communities.
