Please note home-based applications for the 2026 school year will open on Monday, 20 October 2025.

The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is a Western Australian public school delivering flexible, online learning from Kindergarten to Year 12.

We support students in schools with specialist subject teachers, as well as those who cannot attend their local mainstream school due to remote location, high-performance commitments (such as athletes, performers, and full-time dancers), temporary travel, or medical needs. Through digital platforms, Webex lessons, and dedicated teacher support, SIDE ensures quality education is accessible anywhere.

  • SIDE provides opportunities for students who remain enrolled in their current mainstream school. Through SIDE, students can study subjects that are not offered at their school or are unavailable due to timetabling clashes or other constraints. In these cases, applications must be submitted by the student’s school, not by the parent.

For more details go to School-based Enrolments

  • SIDE is available for Western Australian students whose circumstances mean they cannot attend a mainstream school.

Please read Fast Track to SIDE and Parent Supervisor FAQ before starting the application. 2026 Courses and Programs information is available at Curriculum Overview.

Home based enrolment is only available to students who meet one of five enrolment categories: Dance/Ballet, High Performance Sports/Arts, Geographical Isolation, Travelling Temporarily or Referral.

Students must also meet standard enrolment requirements including residency, proof of age and minimum enrolment period.

All home based students must have a SIDE Supervisor who assumes daily supervision and duty of care during school hours to support the students learning. The SIDE Supervisor may be a parent/carer or other responsible adult who works with the student on a daily basis.
