The focus for this unit is on the use of digital technologies to create and manipulate digital media:
Students learn about:
- Design concepts – examine design and the principles of design.
- Hardware – the purpose of the Central Processing Unit (CPU), computer memory and storage, peripheral devices and computer systems, operating systems, software compatibility issues, purchasing hardware, and computer maintenance.
- Impact of technology – purpose of the Copyright Act 1968 (Australia), referencing techniques for digital publications, digital citizenship, impact of digital technologies, and social networking.
- Application skills – data organisation, common file formats for graphics and audio, management of software, types of software licences, and spreadsheet design considerations.
- Project Management - project management considerations, project design process, techniques for a design plan, evaluating a digital product/solution.

The focus for this unit is on the skills, principles and practices associated with various types of documents and communications:
Students learn about:
- Managing data - file optimisation, file compression, online data management, cloud computing, system utility tools.
- Networks - computer networking, transmission media and rates, internet connection components, network topologies for local area networks (LANs).
- Impacts of technology - role of the Privacy Act 1988 (Australia), digital divide, electronic commerce, dependency of electronic and visual communication on socitey.
- Application skills – animation software, audio software, web authoring software, online collaboration, responsive design.
- Project Management – project management techniques.
