In this unit, students
- design investigations, including the procedure(s) to be followed, the materials required, and the type and amount of primary and/or secondary data to be collected; conduct risk assessments; and consider research ethics, including animal ethics
- explore the nervous and endocrine systems
- explore homeostatic mechanisms that help maintain the systems of the body to function within normal range
- study the body’s immune responses to invading pathogens.

In this unit, students
- explore the variations in humans, their changing environment and evolutionary trends in hominids.
- study how the changing environment can influence the survival of genetic variation through the survival of individuals with favourable traits.
