Year 11 Foundation EAL/D

Course Content Description:

The EAL/D course is designed for students who speak another language or dialect as their first or ‘home’ language. The thematic focus for Year 11 Foundation EAL/D is moving between cultures.

Unit 1 focuses on developing communication skills in a range of familiar contexts across language modes in Standard Australian English (SAE). Students investigate and develop language skills that relate to home, personal, social, study and workplace situations.

Unit 2 focuses on continuing to develop communication skills in a range of contexts across language modes in SAE. The unit focus is consolidation of everyday vocabulary and the production of simple texts in informal and rehearsed formal contexts. The unit enables students to develop strategies for accessing information to present ideas and information.

In the course over both units students will:

  • communicate to express ideas on familiar topics using modelled text and visual aids
  • demonstrate an understanding of main ideas in literal information
  • respond to aural, visual and print texts, and begin to express opinions
  • create short, simply structured oral, written and multimodal texts.
