Course Content Description:

Families and Relationships

Students examine and evaluate the diverse and dynamic nature of families in Australia and features of products, services and systems for individuals and families. They recognise and acknowledge cultural diversity, and inequity and injustice issues. They develop effective self-management and interpersonal skills.

The focus of this unit is Caring for Others. Students learn about:

  • Growth and development – domains, differences, needs, biological and environmental factors; family types, roles, responsibilities, beliefs, values, community services
  • Taking Action – communicating and advocating, research skills, communicating and investigating ideas; meeting needs, products and services, attitudes, social, environmental and economic factors; managing and collaborating strategies, decision making, working collaboratively, self-management skills
  • Influences and Impacts – family life, support services; social issues; ethical and legal awareness, rights and responsibilities, values, ethical decision making, rules, regulations and laws

Our Community

This unit focuses on families, relationships and living in communities and the influence of biological and environmental factors, lifestyle behaviours and health status and living in communities.

The focus of this unit is Caring for others. Students learn about:

  • Growth and development – nature of and factors affecting growth and development, theories, impact of genetics, nutrition; lifestyle behaviours and risk factors, protective and preventative strategies
  • Taking Action: Communicating and advocating, research skills, collate and present information, examine community issue; products, beliefs and values; decision making, conflict resolution, communication strategies
  • Influences and Impacts: social networks, community attitudes, health, sustainable living; rights and responsibilities, ethical behaviours
Recommended Background: C grade or higher

External Examination: Externally Set Task (EST) compulsory in Term 2 Year 12
