Course Content Description:

A1PAL

The focus for this unit is Democractic Principles.  Students learn about:

  • Systems of Government including Australia
  • Operating principles of a liberal democracy
  • Roles of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government
  • Influences on the structure of government
  • Law-making in Australia.  The legal system in WA and a non-adversarial system.

A2PAL

The focus for this unit is Representation and Justice. Students learn about:

  • Political representation, parties and pressure groups
  • Electoral and voting systems
  • Contemporary political and legal issues, including potential reforms
  • Case Study: comparison of weaknesses of the WA and French legal systems

 

Recommended Background: C grade or higher in Year 10 Humanities and Social Sciences
