Students learn about:
- The impacts of politics, economics, leadership, international relations
- Elements of society and culture of the time and chronology of events
- Key people and groups at the time and concepts of continuity and change.

The focus for this unit is Power and Authority: Tokugawa Japan.
Students learn about:
- The balance of power in Imperial Japan
- The role of the Samurai in Japanese society
- Reasons for Japan’s isolation from the world
- Significant events, issues, people and other factors that shaped society.
