Modern History Y11 General

Course Content Description:

G1HIM

The focus for this unit is People, Place and Time: China, The Dowager Empress Cixi, the Boxer Rebellion and the Republic.

Students learn about:

  • The impacts of politics, economics, leadership, international relations
  • Elements of society and culture of the time and chronology of events
  • Key people and groups at the time and concepts of continuity and change.

G2HIM

The focus for this unit is Power and Authority: Tokugawa Japan.

Students learn about:

  • The balance of power in Imperial Japan
  • The role of the Samurai in Japanese society
  • Reasons for Japan’s isolation from the world
  • Significant events, issues, people and other factors that shaped society.
Recommended Background: C grade or higher in Year 10 Humanities and Social Sciences
