Psychology Year 11 ATAR

Course Content Description:

A1PSY

In this unit, students:

  • focus on a number of concepts that enable them to gain an understanding of how and why people behave the way they do
  • explore concepts relating to one’s self, including an understanding of the brain and nervous system; the impact of external factors on individuals’ behaviour, such as physical activity and psychoactive drugs; and examine the cognition processes of intelligence, sensation and perception and attention
  • explore concepts relating to others, including an understanding of the different types of relationships; examine the development of relationships during adolescence; and understand the features of effective communication and non-verbal communication
  • examine ethics of psychological research and conduct and report on investigations, following the steps of scientific research

 

A2PSY

In this unit, students:

  • focus on a number of concepts that enable them to gain an understanding of how and why people behave the way they do
  • explore concepts relating to one’s self, including an understanding of developmental psychology across the human life span; examine the nature vs nurture debate; explore historical perspectives of personality theory, including psychodynamic, trait and humanistic theories; and examine approaches to measuring personality
  • explore concepts relating to others, including an understanding of group dynamics and behaviours found within groups; examine stereotypes; Psychology understand mechanisms of attitude formation and measuring attitudes; and examine racism and prejudice
  • further explore psychological research methods introduced in unit 1

 

Recommended Background: B grade or higher in Year 10 Science
