Physics Year 11 ATAR - for teaching from 2025

Course Content Description:

A1PHY

In this unit, students

  • Investigate energy production by considering heating processes, and investigate energy transfer and transformation
  • understand how the kinetic particle model and thermodynamics concepts describe and explain heating processes
  • understand Newtons laws
  • understand how scientific models and theories have developed and are applied to improve existing and develop new technologies especially with regards to car safety
  • use science inquiry skills to design, conduct and analyse safe and effective investigations into motion and forces, mechanical and thermal energy and to communicate methods and findings

A2PHY

In this unit, students

  • describe, explain and investigate the application of wave models to sound phenomena
  • Investigate energy production by considering radioactivity, nuclear reactions and electrical forces
  • understand how scientific models and theories have developed and are applied to improve existing and develop new technologies
  • use science inquiry skills to design, conduct and analyse safe and effective investigations into electrical circuits and wave phenomena in musical instruments, and to communicate methods and findings
  • use algebra and graphical representations to calculate, analyse and predict measurable quantities associated with wave motion
