Destination Moon: more missions, more science is the school theme for National Science Week in 2019. This means, of course, we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing in 1969.
In K-6 Primary the Year 5s have been doing experiments in Chemical Science, and in Science Week Webex they are talking about planets and the solar system. Other classes have been exploring shadows and the position of the sun.
Our 7-12 secondary Science team is celebrating by creating activities and competitions in The Science Lab Moodle course around the idea of space science. They’re exploring the technology and amazing scientists and astronauts who have contributed to breakthroughs in this area.
For those students lucky enough to be in Perth 24-25 August, the Perth Science Festival will be held at the Claremont Showgrounds. This is a family-friendly event with more than 60 interactive stalls, experiments, native animals, stage shows, and more.
Travellers and students in the Great Southern region may be interested in the many activities on offer in Albany and the surrounding area as part of National Science Week in the Great Southern 10-18 August. Lots of scientists live in the Great Southern area. The biennial ‘Great Southern, Great Science Symposium’, brings together scientists within and outside the regions for science cafes, workshops and other activities.
