Being enrolled in SIDE has given Rhys flexibility to train, travel and compete around the world whilst succeeding in an academic ATAR pathway.

In addition to his national triumphs, Rhys has travelled extensively overseas in 2018. In April he won the under-18 and under-21 Oceanic Continental Championships in New Caledonia. He also spent six weeks in Europe achieving a gold medal at the Budapest Cup in Hungary, bronze at the European Cup in Romania and gold at the Bremen International Masters in Germany. He was the first ever Australian to medal on the European Circuit.

He also achieved a gold medal at the Asian Cup in Hong Kong. These international competitions have resulted in a World Ranking in the top 5 for much of 2018 and he is currently ranked number 4.

Rhys doesn’t get a chance to put his feet up quite yet. He has two more competitions in Asia in July and a Training camp in America through August with the aim of qualifying for the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina and the under-21 Junior World Championships in the Bahamas.
