At the start of Term 4, SIDE’s Mini Industry Roadshow had the absolute honour of being invited to run workshops at one of Western Australia’s most remote communities, Tjuntjuntjarra, located in The Great Victorian Desert.

With the support of The Department of Training and Workforce Development and with advice from the community, SIDE’s careers department was able to bring our awesome roadshow all the way to the desert.

Making the trip was Crystle Challinger from SIDE, John Siciliano from SIDE, and Nath Kell from Cabinetry in Schools who delivered workshops in plumbing, automotive, and carpentry/cabinet making to enthusiastic student and community members.

Additionally, through the support of The Department of Training and Workforce Development, SIDE was able to provide tools and equipment to the community to be able to continue building the skills learnt in the workshops.

I just wanted to write and let you know how fabulous Crystle, John and Nathan were (Mini Industry Roadshow). Their attitudes, flexibility and skills were absolutely fantastic. The numbers in the school can fluctuate significantly due to cultural reasons and they adjusted both content and delivery to suit the audience.

The students and teachers were totally engaged with each session, and we all learnt a lot along the way.

As we are such a remote school, we get very few organisations willing to make the journey to us. Both Staff, students and community members were thrilled with the hands on and engaging sessions. We appreciated greatly the time, effort and gifts given to us. We would really love to have the opportunity to host this event next year’.
