Year 12 General EAL/D

Course Content Description:

The EAL/D courses are designed for students who speak another language or dialect as their first or ‘home’ language. EAL/D focuses on development of the competent use of Standard Australian English (SAE) in a range of contexts. The EAL/D General course prepares students for a range of post-secondary destinations in further education, training and the workplace.

G3ELD

In this unit, students:

  • Investigate the relationship between language and culture in a range of contexts
  • Understand how text structures and language features are used to shape oral, written and multimodal texts
  • Explore the context, purpose and audience of texts
  • Plan and create oral, written and multimodal texts to communicate ideas to a specific audience
  • Develop skills for work and further study

 

G4ELD

In this unit, students:

  • Use SAE language skills for effective communication in an expanding range of contexts
  • Develop skills to use cohesive structures at a sentence, paragraph and whole text level
  • Identify, analyse and evaluate attitudes, values and culturally based assumptions in texts
  • Plan, draft and edit extended written, oral and multimodal texts
  • Use strategies for collecting, analysing, organising and presenting ideas and information
