More than a word. Reconciliation takes action.

National Reconciliation Week (27 May-3 June) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The Department of Education is committed to developing strong and effective partnerships with Aboriginal Western Australians based on mutual respect, understanding, knowledge and respect for Aboriginal history, heritage and cultures.

SIDE has been working to develop and implement a Reconciliation Action Plan  (RAP) which was launched this week. The RAP program provides a framework for schools to support the national reconciliation movement and enhance the strategic plans of The Department of Education.

The SIDE RAP is closely tied to The Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework which is part of the broader reform to deliver the best possible education for all students.

All Australians have a role to play in reconciliation– as individuals, families, communities, organisations and as a nation. At the heart of this process are respectful relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and peoples.
