22 students from Years 3-6 participated in an online presentation on Tuesday 2 March.
Be an eSafe kid: Fake news, real harms was presented by the Office of the eSafety Commissioner in a Webex session.
The students had an opportunity to consider different ways in which online news was provided, deciding the most trustworthy news sources, and how to check if something online is true. They used a text chat to share responses with the guest presenter. The presenter suggested that we should use different sites to find truthful information rather than rely of social media.
Year 6 students reflected on some of the things they had learned after the session:
Don’t believe any news or information on Instagram, Facebook or other social media.
Don’t research using social media. Go to proven sources.
Take a look at some of the slides to get an idea of what was discussed.
