STUDENTS       DOE STAFF

On Friday 11 December, about 100 parents and students who are enrolling at SIDE in 2021 participated in orientation activities at the Leederville campus.

The program was intended mainly for home-based students, although some school-based students also attended.

Parents and students were able to tour SIDE and talk to school leaders, the Student Services team and teachers to find out more about teaching and learning at SIDE. Just as a traditional school orientation day consists of learning about the layout of the school and getting a feel for the physical classroom spaces and structures, SIDE students entered their online classrooms to gain a little distance learning experience. All students had the opportunity to participate in an online lesson in Webex, SIDE’s platform for synchronous lessons, as well as work their way through a mini-Moodle course, where they were able to experience what working in an asynchronous online classroom will be like.

Parents and students alike found the day to be of value. Parents were happy to learn more about how to best support their child, and students were positive in their feedback with comments such as

I cannot wait to start SIDE in 2021, I feel much more confident and comfortable!
