The SIDE community welcomes our new Principal, Paul Mathews.
Paul has extensive experience in regional and metropolitan schools. His broad experience in different teaching and environments and communities makes him a great fit for SIDE. He began his career as an English teacher and has held leadership positions in Western Australia and the Northern Territory for 20 years.
Paul was the inaugural Principal at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School in 2006, followed by an appointment as inaugural Principal of Bunbury’s Manea Senior College in 2008. In 2012 he won the WA Education Secondary Principal of the Year Award. He was appointed Principal of Casuarina College in Darwin in 2014.
Since his return to WA in 2018, Paul has been a Principal Advisor in Teaching and Learning Services, and in 2020 was part of the Secondary Connected Learning Leadership team during the WA Education Department’s COVID-19 response.
Paul brings experience and enthusiasm to SIDE. He is committed to equity and ensuring students are supported at all levels of schooling, wherever they are located.
He is excited by the opportunities for SIDE to build on its strengths and support the needs of all students across WA and our global education community.
The potential to connect with students and teachers across WA and beyond and provide inspiring educational experiences is what has attracted me to this exciting and very privileged position.
