Course Content Description:

A3PAL

The focus for this unit is Political and Legal Power. Students learn about:

  • Legislative, executive and judicial powers with reference to the Constitution of Australia and one other country
  • Roles and powers within the parliamentary system in theory and practice
  • The lawmaking process – individuals, political parties and pressure groups
  • Federalism in Australia.

A4PAL

The focus for this unit is Accountability and Rights. Students learn about:

  • The accountability of the Commonwealth Parliament
  • Accountability of the Executive and public servants
  • Accountability of the courts, human rights
  • Comparison of the democratic principles in Australia
  • Experience of a group in the political and legal systems in Australia
Recommended Background: C grade or higher in Year 11 ATAR Politics and Law
