Each year the WA Correspondence School produced a school magazine with images of the children, where they lived, and samples of their work.

In this sample, Colleen’s work describes a wasp building its nest and it is accompanied by her drawing of the wasp’s nest near her desk in the station classroom.

Colleen was in Grade 1 in 1977. She lived on a station in the Kimberley region, with her Mum as a home tutor, and used mainly written communication with her teacher. She remembers visiting the WA Correspondence School once in the year when she visited Perth, and the joy of the visit from the teacher at the Derby School of the Air, then still part of WACS who brought activities and books to the station once during the year.
