Every year Australian schools and public libraries celebrate Australian books, authors and illustrators during the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week.

Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays and activities to highlight the importance of reading.

This year’s book week begins on 21 August. The poster and artwork were designed by Western Australian born award winning author and illustrator, Shaun Tan .

On 20 August the winners in each of the Book of the Year Categories were announced. Teachers, teacher librarians, children and young adults have been reading the short listed books since the end of March. Check out the shortlist and the winning books here .

The SIDE Library has many of this year’s shortlisted books. Teacher librarians have been discussing the shortlists and reading books with students in primary classes this term.

Primary children will be dressing up as a book character for their online lessons during the week. Onsite students and staff have been invited to dress up as their favourite book character on Wednesday 25 August. Look out for the photos on SIDE’s social media.
